My 15 year old daughter is very conscious of how important it is to keep her skin healthy and take care of her face. What are some products/ingredients I should tell her to include and some that are important for her to avoid? Thanks!

Hi Becky,
Thanks for submitting your question. This brings back fond memories of my mother helping me with my skincare routine in my teens 😊 I suggest taking a holistic approach and look at everything that can affect skin:
Sleep - A good night’s sleep is vital to repair and rejuvenate cells. The CDC recommends teens get 8-10 hours of sleep for optimal wellbeing.
Movement/exercise - Sweating is good natural detox for the skin and body overall. A good workout, or even steam session/sauna can do this.
Diet - A diet full of healthy fats, protein, fiber, nutrients, and staying hydrated (water over sugar filled drinks). Stay away from or limit processed food, it’s crazy what’s in our food and what it’s doing to our bodies in general.
Managing stress through exercise and meditation.
Increased inflammation
Impaired wound healing
More oil and sebum production
Impaired resistance to infection
Skincare - I’m not a dermatologist, but I would advise a natural based routine that isn’t full of endocrine disruptors, but also keeps things simple (younger skin doesn’t need a lot of treatments like older or troubled skin). Three of my favorite brands that I’ve used and go back to, that are teen friendly are:
Leahlani Skincare
Earth Harbor Naturals
Primally Pure they have a Teen Acne Bundle.
You can also both use the Switch Natural app to scan products to see what is clean and what’s not. It’s available for download on Apple and Google Play.
Other brands I’ve heard good things about that are geared towards teens:
Bubble (also available in store at Walmart)
Tower 28 Beauty
Kinship
BTWN
Juice Beauty’s Natural Teen Line (available in store at most natural grocers, as well as Wholefoods).
I hope this helps, and that you both enjoy the time together learning about skincare, and caring for her skin. Keep me posted on how it goes!
Xoxo, Crystal
